Enter the Summoner.

I am happy, no estatic, literally if I could, I would be jumping for joy. Lady Misty, the HPS of the Silver Phoenix Coven of which I am now a member of, has asked me to be the Coven's Summoner. I did some research on different sites to learn more about my new position. Here is what I found:

The role of the summoner is already established in Neopaganism; he is the member of the Wiccan coven (usually a man) who, before the ritual, sends out the call to the members of the coven that the ritual is about to begin and, during the ritual, acts as a kind of gatekeeper and stands outside the circle to protect against intruders.

The male officer of the coven who corresponds to the Maiden. He is the assistant High Priest.

The Summoner sometimes called a Fetch is a position in many traditional Wiccan Covens. The primary, or at least most evident, function of the Summoner is to call other coven members to a meeting or ritual. The summoner is also responsible for all inter-coven communication and traditionally is the only member of a coven who will know where other covens reside. (This tradition is generally not followed today and there is argument about to what extent it was ever followed.) In many covens the Summoner is always male and is considered the masculine equivalent of the maiden.

Summoner - Understudy to the High Priest, who substitutes for him when necessary. Main administrative deputy, passing out information, collecting dues, letting people know when to meet and what to bring, etc. Also called the "Man in Black," "Black Rod," or "Verdelet." Badge of office may be a blackthorn staff.

I let Lady Misty know from the beginning what my long term plans are, to be a High Priest someday. Without any prejudice or anyone accusing me of plotting to take over the Coven, she asked me would I consider taking over the role of Summoner. She explained to me what it entailed and I graciously accepted. From the research I did on my own, I learned that this position is one of the key positions in a successful Coven. On this upcoming Sunday, I will be attending the DVPN Summer Social & I will proudly represent my Coven there, not only as a member, but now as the Summoner. I look forward to serving my Coven in my new position to the best of my ability & at a moment's notice I will be ready to jump in and fulfill the duties of the High Priest if that need ever arises.
In Love & Light,
Cædmon
